Maryhill Girls’ High School was founded in 1933 when some great missionary women (Sisters of Our Lady of Africa) answered the call of serving the children who were born of mixed races in East Africa. These children could not be admitted into the African, European or Asian Schools.
The school acquired its name from Mary Mother of Jesus and the hill on which it stands. Soon after independence, the school got a new status when the first bright African girls were admitted. The first African headmistress, Miss. Rose Wangui took over the running of the school from Missionary Sisters in 1978. The school later became a public school. In 1989 the school presented the first candidates in 8-4-4 education system.
Maryhill Girls High School, now a girls’ National Boarding School, has since became one of the most prestigious schools in the Country. offering (17) seventeen subjects as follows:- Mathematics, Kiswahili, English, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, History, Geography, Music, C.R.E, Art and Design, Agriculture, Computer studies, Business Studies, French, home science.
